Biography
Merveille’s birth was a miracle. Her father was a Border Collie; and although he had the intelligence of the breed, he also possessed its faults, nervousness was one of them. The mother was the daughter of the spirits; she came from the love of a swan and the Blue Bird of Happiness. She was blessed with belief in spiritualism, but had no special powers – on the contrary, his father’s power to create happiness turned into the opposite in her; her share of life was sorrow.
When she was born, Merveille’s parents hoped she would be like other Border Collies, without any traits coming from her supernatural grandfather; and they rejoiced because she seemed to be ordinary. As the years passed, her intelligence and her eagerness to learn increased and it became obvious that it was more than the usual aptitude of the breed. Another alarming sign was her skill to know other’s thoughts and sentiments. However, they were happy because they believed that was all. Everyone praised her for her diligence and cleverness; but in fact, she was lazy and hated the word cleverness. For her, it meant knowing cold facts without understanding or caring for them. She couldn’t learn that way. She had to understand things and be interested in them. As she reached adolescence, another power of hers became revealed; she could fly by will. Also, as getting older, she grew fond of hermitage; she passed weeks locked up alone, reading and thinking about the great questions in life. Her teachers tried to get her involved in team activities, but they failed. Merveille hated the crowd and the negative power it had over its members. She knew she was unique and she intended to stay so. When the time arrived, she left her family behind to find her place and role in the world and to make her own home. That was the time she first met her grandfather. To help her, he granted her three tutors. He introduced her to Astre Solitaire; the son of a Border Collie and a helping spirit. He was supposed to keep her company and cheer her up when she was feeling down. The second helper was Voix, the eternal kitten, whose task was to show Merveille how to find her voice and let it be heard. He also comforted her when she needed. The third friend was Plume, the bird of art and inspiration. He gave her strength and flying thoughts to write. With their help, Merveille was able to reach her goal – she became an author and lived on her income. She spent her days in tranquillity; she read a lot, and became an expert of British History and Culture, not to mention Literature. She listened to sweet old folk songs all day long and dreamed about a better world. The world she visited in her dreams would be hard to find on earth, but it is not less real than our (sometimes cruel) reality. |
